This virtual presentation will examine the early days of the Lower Counties on the Delaware under the proprietary governance of William Penn and his successors; delve into the conditions that ultimately led them to seek separation and form an independent state and the challenges following America's War of Independence; and discuss how "Separation Day" in the City of New Castle came to commemorate the founding of the State of Delaware.
